Tommy was a colorful character, and in this book, he attempts to give you the real story as much as a man like him might be able to, given the constraints of the medium, and the breadth of his career on being a Studio Musician, or even a better musician.
His passion comes through, but he doesn't attempt to make it perfect. It's almost as if he were talking to you, teaching you one minute, and regaling you with stories and anecdotes the next. It's very "stream of consciousness" and without apology. Do not look at or expect this to be a teaching method in the truest sense of the word.
Rather see it as a glimpse of what it might have been like to sit at the feet of a man who had a lot to teach you, but didn't have all the time in the world to do so. One thing that is very clear, is what you see is what you get with Tommy. No punches pulled, and if you approach it with respect of what he became, and look at it as the words of a man, a mentor, opinionated, wrong at times, and human The exercises themselves will challenge most people, but the book as a whole, is a gem.

Not only was this man a member of the legendary 'wrecking crew' who recorded most of the pop hits from the sixties and early seventies for groups like the beach boys, jan and dean, sonny and cher, the monkeys, etc. In addition to all this he taught at the Guitar Institute in Hollywood and wrote a regular article for Guitar Player magazine. He was awesome, and this book holds some key thoughts about things he learned over his career as a studio musician.
